Legal Evolve users have long been using precedent tags to auto populate letters, documents etc. But you might not be aware that tags can be added to auto populate the document name too. This week’s tip is all about how to do exactly this.
Within a document, users are used to seeing tags with angle brackets i.e. <ClientName> . However these angle brackets cannot be used as characters in a document name. Instead, we use dashes i.e. -ClientName-.
Follow our easy step-by step guide to get started...
1. Go to the Library.
2. Decide which document title you want to tag. In our example we are tagging a Letter to Client.doc.
3. Highlight the document and hit F2 to rename (or right-click, select Edit, then select Rename)
4. The first tag we will add is -CurrentDate- to the start of the document name.
5. Replace the word Client in the title with –ClientName- and hit Ok.
6. Our document is now titled -CurrentDate- letter to -ClientName-.doc.
7. To see it working...go into a case and import the document from the library and you will see that it will automatically be populated. In our example our document is automatically titled as 2011-09-19 letter to Dave McCarthy.doc.
Any tag can be applied to a document name.
Happy tagging!
