Our recent Documatics User Events in Cork & Dublin proved to be a great success.

The events were an opportunity for our clients to meet the Documatics Team and to get an insight into our plans for 2010 and beyond.

We used the events as a forum to discuss current ‘Hot Topics’ that are affecting the legal industry at present. We also wanted to raise awareness of new features & upgrades to the Legal Evolve Platform and key strategic partnerships that we are building with various companies to provide a complete solution to our clients.

The turnout for each event was very positive and shows that the legal industry is reacting, in a very positive manner, to the issues it has been facing in recent times.

At our recent User Event we were delighted to have launched one of our new Business Focuses for 2010…the DOCUMATICS TRAINING ACADEMY. We understand that continuous Training is the cornerstone of any successful implementation and efficient usage of our products. We have always seen it as an integral part of our business to provide our clients with a continually evolving solution backed up by an excellent support and training service.

Working from our vast experience and knowledge within the Legal market and more importantly the feed-back you as Clients give the team about our product, we are also now ready to deliver to you the most FEATURE PACKED software upgrade to date. Our upgrade offers several new and enhanced features to our product. Our new update also has for you the tools you require to meet the challenges and significant changes to the PI REGULATIONS. Our new RISK ASSESSEMENT module has all the tools you require to implement and manage this.

Documatics’ first overseas venture - the Australian legal market.

It’s twilight, music drifts from fashionable sea-side bistros and prosperous crowds bustle among contemporarily-styled bars and eateries. The banter recounts property prices (high) and of finding a plumber (impossible). It might be Dún Laoghaire in 2005 but this is Bondi today.

Australians are broadly aware of the Credit Crunch, they even have their own name for it; the Global Financial Crisis (this is always abbreviated to ‘GFC’). They may even know of a currency-trader who lost a job to it, but by-and-large the Lucky Country has barely paused for breath and good-times continue to roll. It is into this market that Documatics launched its first international venture.

The Documatics Australia subsidiary was established 18 months ago. In this short time Documatics has won business in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and we can now announce our first site in New Zealand. Our user base in the Southern Hemisphere is rapidly approaching the 200 mark, with prestige firms and the legal department of a tier-one bank amongst the early adopters.

Right now, Documatics Australia’s professional services consultants are installing a fifty-user site at one of the country’s big four banks. The bank’s Taxation and Legal departments needed to deploy a document management tool in order to improve the efficiency with which they administer matters. Critical to their requirements were ease of use, boosting productivity and controlled generation of documentation. Of particular interest when choosing a vendor was the need for rapid deployment and first-class support.

Following a rigorous appraisal of competing systems, Documatics was selected as the successful bidder. The bank cited as key differentiators; Evolve’s Content Searching capability, its ability to unify procedures and processes and to remove the company’s dependency on physical paper.

In addition to the Bank and numerous small and medium legal firms, Documatics Australia is proud to announce a global first: An all Apple Mac practice using the Evolve Platform©. Documatics were invited, along with 3 other vendors, to tender for a 42-user firm with a significant investment in Apple systems. No other vendor was able to satisfy the Apple requirement. Meanwhile, Documatics’ software engineers demonstrated the Evolve Platform© running, fully-functional, on an Apple Mac – with our system integrating with Apple versions of Microsoft Office. The firm is already enjoying all the benefits the Evolve Platform© has to offer.

Doing Business in Australia

All new markets bring challenges. Australia's unique challenges are nuanced.

A business network is the bridgehead to any new territory. We developed this pivotal asset in association with Enterprise Ireland. The EI men and women on the ground didn’t just open doors - they located them.

Growing a network of consultants and prospects is facilitated by the Australians’ convivial approach to everything. When doing business in Australia, one should never underestimate the importance of after-hours meetings. Expect the conversation to be gregarious and turn towards sports as the evening draws on. You may notice that the political correctness, ingrained in the culture of Northern corporations, can sometimes appear to be absent here. This can leave the liberal-minded business traveller conflicted. Wise counsel would be to pick your battles and don't fight the tide.

The Captains of Australian Industry are straight talkers who are not afraid to let you know what they are thinking.

Legal Technology Down Under

Australia is one of the world’s most tech-savvy nations, with one of the fastest take-ups of new technology. In 2008 they were ranked fourth in the world for e-readiness by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU). Their information and communication technology market has grown at a rapid pace, thanks to their highly-educated workforce, investment in research and development and sophisticated business environment.

Despite all of these advantages, the Australian legal industry suffered from many of the adverse circumstances that were present in the Irish market prior to the emergence of Legal Evolve™. Incumbent software suppliers have lost touch with their users. Price increases and reduced service levels left lawyers struggling to manage their businesses. For years, no serious efforts were made to develop new features. The legacy systems of corpulent software companies are no match for the leading edge offerings of a sophisticated document and workflow management system like the Evolve Platform©.
